Default Brits moving back from USA to UK - transfer of medications?

Hi, Hubby & I been in USA 12 years, green card holders. The time has come to move back to the UK, but we are 12 years older and this brings with it a list as long as your arm of medications we are on and need. Any suggestions on how to transfer this information to the UK NHS, and possibly more importantly get it honoured in the UK?

Hi Elsda, welcome to BE.
My husband and I were in the same situation, although we were returning to the UK from Australia.

Unfortunately there is no way that we found to transfer information electronically to the NHS. We got printouts of our medical history, including past and current medications from our GPs, which we gave to our new GP in the UK.
We took a couple of months worth of our prescription meds with us, to make sure we had enough to tide us over.
On our first UK GP visit, he gave us prescriptions for our necessary medications. There was one that I was taking that wasn't approved for use in the UK (you might want to check that before you leave the US), he prescribed me a similar medication which did the job although wasn't quite as effective. He also referred us to the appropriate consultant (specialist) where necessary for ongoing treatment (eg rheumatologist).

For the prescription medications you're travelling back with (in your baggage or hand luggage), check if any of them are on the UK list of controlled drugs to see what you need to do to get through customs with them.

I hope that helps a bit and good luck with your moving back plans.
