Using a 4-3-3 format, which is ironic since such a format was not in vogue when most of these geezers were in their prime:-

Pat Jennings

Jimmy Armfield Dave Mackay John Charles Mel Hopkins

Danny Blanchflower Bobby Moore Jim Baxter

George Best Bobby Charlton Ian St. John

SUBS/Didn't have room for:- Jack Kelsey, Gordon Banks, Stanley Matthews, John White, Alex Young

(Reminder - this is the British Football thread - we sometimes have to talk about the round balled game)

I'll post mine then:
(Going for a 4-3-3 combo)

GK: G.Banks.
DF: P.Maldini
DF: T.Adams
DF: J. Charles
DF: B.Moore (Captain)
MF: J.Barnes
MF: Z.Zidane
MF: G. Zola
AT: K. Dalglish
AT: Pelé
AT: Maradona

Subs bench:
R.Clemence. D. Fairclough (supersub) P. Gascoigne. I. Wright.

These were chosen off the top of my head and from players I've either seen or heard about. I've had to exclude many others which everyone else may have said I should have included, but that's why I'm asking for your Legend 11.

What, no Johnny Haynes ? but them I'm biased.
There is a big move amongst Fulham supporters (and others) to get him some sort of recognition.

Couple of names (Mel Hopkins, Jim Baxter) I've never heard of, but like the rest of them there Guggler.

Cafu
Willie Miller
Franz Beckenbauer
Roberto Carlos

Eric Cantona
Brian Laudrup
Edgar Davids
Gordon Strachan

Paolo Rossi
Marco Van Basten

Subs: Peter Schmeichel, Franco Baresi, Steven Gerrard, Johan Cruyff, Mia Hamm.
Another great line-up... I'd drop Adams to the bench and put Beckenbauer in my team. I was going to choose a goalkeeping leg end from my team as well - Bert Trautmann.

I also had to leave out quite a few that otherwise would have gone straight in. - Such as George Weah (not the Weah when he played for City, but the one when he got the ball deep in his own half - took it up the field and then scored THAT goal.)
Quite a few Dutch and Italian players I could have chosen as well.

Nat Lofthouse is the same sort of thing with Bolton. Everybody remembers the Matthews Final, the man himself says that it was Nat's final and not his.

Great teams there.
Still want to see some more.

Changing back to the present day -
Can we have a minutes quiet sniggering in memory of Liverpool's demise in the FA Cup last night...

Houllier II anyone ?

Actually let's have a go.

DF:

MF: Mickey Adams (dodgy money)
MF: Merson (drink/drugs)
MF: Cantona (kung foo)

Houllier II anyone ?
Big Djimi Traore looked like what he is ... a clumsy big hack, capable of the occasional semi-decent tackle and a half-decent pass once in a while but absolutely out of his depth at this level. Should have dispatched him to the Toffees last summer.

Houllier II anyone ? Yes, I'd certainly say Benitez could be in trouble sooner than he imagines, what's he playing at sending a team like that to Turf Moor??!! Frankly, I'd keep Gerrard, Riise, Carragher, Baros, Hamann (maybe) and (maybe) Smicer and turf the rest!! Jersey Dudek hasn't played well since before the last World Cup, for heaven's sake!! Shite, if the Shank was still around they'd all have been out on their ear long ago!! Harumph!!

Yip, a pretty good keeper .. although I preferred Peter 'The Cat' Bonetti myself. As goalies go though, if you're prepared to go back far enough, it's hard to beat a guy called Harry Gregg.

Last couple of mins from Soccernet:
90 mins
FULL TIME: Show me a man who doesn't love the FA Cup, and I'll show you a cold, heartless freak. Great effort from all concerned. The game of Football is a better one for matches like this.

90 mins
What a wonderful second-half effort from Exeter. At times, they've been all over United.

88 mins
United close out the game with some composure. Clay hauls down Ronaldo, earning a yellow card and the respect of 9,000 home fans.

87 mins
If you're quiet, you'll be able to hear the achingly-beautiful sound of 9,000 Exeter hearts shattering in the cold, dark night.

86 mins
GOAL! Sensing the danger, United move up a gear: Saha finds Rooney with a lovely ball, and the young England lion rounds Jones before slotting home.
Ah well.... Well played Exeter though.

Off for a Meat n' tater now.

As usual, the Man U lot berated the ref at any opportunity,Rooney was his usual gobshite self and left his foot in too much.Exeter had a player booked for a tackle that wasn't anything like as bad as some of the Man U ones.
One rule for Man U,another for the rest.
Well done Exeter, for 20 mins of the 2nd half you were in it.
Nice to see the local Man U lot turned out to support their team, more live in Devon than any where near Disneyland, oops sorry,I mean Old Trafford.
