A true enough point. But I'm on my third 6-month term with ibVPN, so signs of them going belly up yet ....

Aye, there's definitely exceptions to the rule...but definitely a case of only going for it if you can afford to lose the money and certainly safer sticking to recommendations of outfits that have been around for a good while.

Have used for over 3 years, pay monthly via PayPal. On the one occasion when I had a technical issue, I emailed their tech support and got excellent, prompt, friendly service.

We've just completed a free trial of Unotelly and have been impressed. There were 1-2 occasions when we got the 'insufficient bandwith' message but the issues lasted for less than a minute
Looks like you can save a few $$$ by signing up for a year.

I've used HMA (HideMyAss) for the past 2 years - works with desktop and mobile (iPhone & iPad), has multiple servers and services in most coumtries around the world. Can also be used to VPN back to the US from overseas if you want to watch ESPN or the NBC Sports Network to see live EPL games even from the UK using your iPad...

I've used HideIPVPN in the past. Only $5.99 a month (on a month-to-month plan). Very reliable and good customer service.
I get most of my UK TV programmes via bittorrent, so only dip into VPN occasionally, when I can't get programs otherwise.
I just re-subscribed to HideIPVPN this month after last subscribing back in January. Absolutely no issues or problems.
On a side note, it is a great shame the UK companies do not make subscription programs available outside the UK. I would gladly pay a reasonable fee to get content legally.
I know there are operations that offer to set up a Sky account and stream via a Slingbox device, but that is very expensive, and only lets you see live TV. But it is, supposedly, legal.

My husband signed us up with Viewtvabroad about a year ago. We pay about eleven dollars a month...it sounds like there are much cheaper services out there! I was under the impression you couldn't view iplayer on an iPad because of flash...right? Wish I could...we don't have a computer hooked to the Telly, so I have to use the laptop and hook it up every time.
We're happy with the service, but if we can save a few bucks....

The iPad has specific apps for both BBC and ITV - you need to create an account on iTunes in the UK (after connecting your VPN first!) and download from there - you'll need to put in a credit card to allow downloads, but there is no impact or charges to your card when you 'buy' free apps. Whenever there is an updated app your iPad will ask you for your UK iTunes store login details - once entered it will switch to the UK store and download the updates.

(I learned that the hard way, but got it fixed a few days later)
