Re: BEST STATE IN AMERICA TO CALL HOME?
I think it truly depends what you are looking for in your new home...
I am a city girl, so my ideal home is a place that moves! It also must be culturally diverse, cosmopolitan and metropolitan, liberal thinking, free thinking people, lot's to do at any time of the day or night.
The only 2 cities in the US that I find liveable are San Francisco or NYC.
I guess the reality is that one person's heaven is another person's hell

Hawai'i would be my first pick.

I love the snow but I hate driving in blizzards.. It's very stressful to drive when you can't see where you are going.. it makes me want to drink when I get home ..

Lol - my husband and I just took "Find your Spot" and didn't have a single city in common. Oops.
His #1 was Anchorage, followed by nearly every city in Colorado. My #1 was Portland, Oregon (tell me something I don't know!)
I'd consider Colorado though, and he said he would consider Oregon. Maybe someday.

I always try to be in an upbeat state of mind when I call home.

I really like N. Carolina because:
weather (four seasons and in the Piedmont, there's little/neglible snow in the winter)
cost of living is reasonable compared to NE USA and California
in the Triangle (Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh) there's a pretty good diversity for cities of this size. e.g. very good and affordable restaurants (particularly Indian), many nationalities/ethinicities represented
direct flights from RDU (Raleigh Durham) airport to the UK
