BTW, Anyone else think Groundforce is now a pale imitator of it's former self without Alan Titchmarsh?

I was reading in the paper yesterday that the US is set to make a version of Father Ted, with a heavily toned down Father Jack in it.
This sounds as ridiculous as when they made Fawlty Towers in the 80s with Golden Girl Bea Arthur as the lead .... but dropped Basil as a character !

Commercials? on the BBC? that's surprising, I actually thought I'd get a break from all that rubbish, is it as bad as American telly?

BBCA is actually a franchise and is not the BBc proper. BBCA buy British programmes and sell them to the US market and market the channel as BBCA when it really isn't the BBC.
For examply "So Graham Norton" is a Channel 4 production.
I think why they decided to call it BBCA is that the BBC is world renowned and probably thouight that the average American had heard of the BBC.
I've had BBCA now since '98 or was it '99 - I can't remember! - to many changing rooms and ground force for me
but I wouldn't be without it especially when I am going through serious bouts of home sickness.
I do like to watch Graham, Talking Moovies, What Not To Wear and of couse East Enders.

Murdoch is behind half the press out here too- he's in the Cato institute, you name it .......and most Americans don't even know his name..scary huh. Now who do you think was responsible for the media silencing during the last fiasco of an election???
You should have seen the Fox channel when they were trying to impeach Clinton..bloody nora LOL. We used to tune in for a laugh, and thought we'd seen it all until the commercials advertising for "any woman who *thinks* she might have been sexually harrassed by Bill Clinton in the past" to phone this number - "funds and support available for law suit". We were gobsmacked.

Well it is the BBC, they use the BBC logo..its just not funded by British TV licence payers (rightly so). They have to have commercials to fund themselves and to pay for all programmes- most progs are BBC. When they have a big event like the QM's funeral- there are no commercials we get the full BBC1 coverage uninterrupted.
They have a website with full info and prgramme scheduling

Big kudos to the programme scheduler who had ' coupling ' followed by ' faking it ' last night on bbca... sounds like how many a romantic evening would end up !
Cheers

I get it and to be honest its not great. My wife loves watching 3 hours of Eastenders on the weekend but other than that its lots of repeats. Its a shame really given the great quality of British TV. If they loaded it with decent programs You would have thought that it could be a great revenue stream for the BBC (because it has adverts)

Decision made then. I'm not bothering with it.

I am missing British T.V so badly now that I am learning to put up with whatever rubbish BBC America puts out.
I wonder if we bombard them with e-mails they will get the message and introduce something decent. Especially for us stay at home mums. There is only so much changing rooms a girl can take.
