Re: Bangers

I used to buy the bangers from Whole Foods but found that the breakfast links from our local farmers market are the nearest thing to good old british bangers and half the price too.

I also buy Irish Bacon from Stop n Shop occasionally but it's nowhere near as good as Danish back bacon.

The bacon's alright, but its been a while since I had it - definitely don't recall it being bad. One thing with the bangers sold at S&S in CT is that they contain MSG, so they're not exactly an all-natural treat...but then by definition a sausage is unlikely to be healthy. Saying that, the Trader Joe's chicken sausages are suprisingly good, without being extreme coronary fodder.

Re: Bangers

I just ordered 11 lbs of back bacon from williams online. It was about $100 with P&P. I am going to setup a small bacon store at my desk at work. I already have the whole lot assigned to people here, and more people keep asking me if there is any left.. this may become a regular thing if the bacon is any good. Should be arriving tomrrow.. yummy!

For a former Britexpat user and his USC wife who are now residing in Connecticut and with whom my husband and I have become very good friends, I would pick up fresh made bangers at the Irish butcher in McLean Heights in Yonkers, NY for him to enjoy. Said they were delicious.

I live an hours drive from Williams and I can tell you the bacon is excellent, as are the sausages. I was there last Friday and "Maureen" the lovely lady from Cheshire takes you to the back of the farmers market to the freezer storage and in you go surrounded by marvellous crates and crates of every kind of banger you could dream of as well as back & streaky bacon & pork roast with crackling. this place is a dream come true!
I tried the Cumberland sausages and the Guinness stout blend this time.
We had toad in the hole for supper Sunday with the Cumberland ones and they are great, free range piggys and hardly any fat/grease, bloody delicious!

I hope you enjoy your pork products angleman and Bob this place could satisfy your needs I do believe! :D

If anyone's tried it, I'd be interested to know as it'll be cheaper than trying to find the Brit store with the lovely bacon in Peabody.

And what other sausages are worth trying out and other pseudo Brit stuff?

I once drove up and down route 1 sbout 6 times trying to find somewhere close to park my truck and get in that store but never managed it. I eventually got some geyser who lived in Billerica near the British shop there to get me some McVitties chocolate home wheat and other goodies.
I have refused to eat the bangers they have here untill we had a 4th of July barbie this year and the Italian sausages looked decidely crispy, I tried some in hot dog rolls, they were excellent :)

That reminds me to order some more of 'the special stuff'... should get some tissues in case people's noses start bleeding.. hehe

They sell thick-cut uncured and cured bacon in several stores around my place. Local brands like Prarie Grove and Carlton's are particularly good, national brands like Niman and Neuske are also damned good. Good bacon is like smack.

I'll have to keep an eye for them, never saw them before though, but now in mass, might actually find things :D

Re: Bangers

hmm.. this could be an expensive habit. Everytime I want bacon now I will have to find some willing participants at work to join in the meat orgy and order several hundred dollars worth from williams. Bacon was very good. Could maybe be a little thicker and or smokier but otherwise it hit the spot. SO nic to have bacon that when cooked doesnt reduce in size by 300% spewing out watery fat all over the place.
Maybe I can persuade the canteen at work to import the bacon from williams, especially since our next animation is set in england.

HEB have a nice little selection for around $3 including one made with chicken, spinach & feta cheese. It's the most fun you can have with cock-shaped food.

Wouldn't that be a banana? :D

Anyway, HEB...hmmm...don't think there's one around, but never know, I'll keep an eye out :)
