Default background check

Hi all,

Well we just got back from our green card interview at Federal Plaza NYC, interesting experience, all very easy questions then a cursory glance at some wedding photos. At the end though instead of the hearty handshake and "welcome to the states" we were told we would be informed by mail in the 3 months of the decision. Our lawyer asked was this down to the background checks not being completed yet, and the interviewer said yes.

So has anyone been through this experience, are you still waiting, and if not how long did it take!?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Tom

I'm not going to be any help here, possibly the opposite, but this was/is my experience in Texas. It took me 4 years to get a GC, despite being married to a US citizen. My GC is dated 9/10/01 - they were clearing the backlog after 911, otherwise, I assume it would have taken longer. I applied for citizenship almost two years ago and they are still awaiting the FBI background check on my surname (possibly because I have an Hispanic surname). I was told almost a year ago, after enquiring about the delay, that they had no idea when to expect clearance - that it could be tomorrow or it could be much longer. I suspect it depends on several factors and that every case is different.
