Default Austin, TX

Hello all,

I Just moved the clan from Oakpark in LosAngeles to new job in Austin,TX. LA was just getting too expensive and unrealistic in terms of buying a house. A Uk(Oldham) friend of mine who I work with moved here first. Anyone else in the area?

We've found a curryhouse and Indian spice store, Being Indian we gots to have dem spices! Next on our list is a store that sells Britfood. We managed to relocate with 3 crates of Baked Beans, they worked out a dollar a can! !

I've heard there's quite an exodus from California to Austin. Anyone hear the same?

All the best!

My wife and I are (more or less) regular visitors of the Clay Pit on 1601 Guadalupe Street. Very good restaurant.

That looks like the same chain that has a Clay Pit in Addison here in North Dallas.

If it is, then I can highly recommend their Goat Curry. Best curry I've had over here, and always cooked fresh because no Yank ever orders it!

Wow cheers for that info Toontje. Claypit Menu defo sounds northern Indian, ace! The Indian curryhouses we went to in Los Angeles were mainly South Indian. which were nice, Punjabi dishes are closer to what we'd have in Birmingham. The place the wife found was 'The Bombay Grill' on Beecave Road or summat like that.

Hello Anabella, thanks for the welcome , I dont mind being newbie again

Hello Jim, where abouts in Liverpool then? I was a student at JMU in 91-93 and lived in Everton, just off Scottie Road. Then ended up working for a few years at Wavertree, but I commuted through the Tunnel from the Wirral(New Brighton!)

Cheers all! Ya'll have some Karma!

New Brighton?????? Well, I lived in New Brighton, from '87-'96, then I moved to Iowa.

Prior to that, I was born and raised in Fairfield (between Kensington & Old Swan) and drove buses along Scottie from 1986-96. I drove for the company that was known as North Western.

Small world, eh?

Jim.

Yep, it's a "chain" with a whopping number of 2 restaurants. One in Dallas and one in Austin.

Hi,

I just moved to Austin from London although I've been here quite a few times it's different when you live somewhere. It's refreshing to be around people that arn't constantly pissed off that's for sure. London got to me after 7 years. I spent 3 months in LA and San Diego 2 years ago and I'd love to get back over there at some point. One thing I think you'll miss is being close to the Ocean but it's a cool town.

Anyway you saved me from asking about the curry house situation so thanks...and I'll see you there.

Rich./

Wow, holy crap. Small world for sure,Scouse Express! - Ok so I lived in the 'orrible Crete and Candia towers as a student on Scottie road! and went to the Jester pub when we couldnt be arsed to go into town. Yeah I remember North Western Buses, used them alot! Fine mode of transport I was there when they started building the new Gyro(Gyratory Bus station) near Lime St!

In NewBrighton we used to frequent the Hotel Victoria, fantastic beer garden! Elevated high, sat there on a many a warm afternoon nursing pints after pint, you could see the Irish sea and the Seacats go out, some reckoned that they could see Southport on a clear day. Not much of drinker these days. I heard this year they tore down the Hotel Vic! Another great pub down there was 'The Magazine'. Beer garden's, damn I miss those! My Favorite ones were where the Landlord had kept the grass! Not Concreted it over!

Hi ya Dogbyte, Happy Chrimbo and Happy NewYear Sir! My 2 kids were born at Stepping Hill, Stockport! whoo hoo! I used to live Just off Gilbent Rd!
The funny thing is I've lived in Liverpool and Manchester and there's always been that rivalry between the two towns. I miss em both!

Yep Rich, I do miss the Ocean, A LOT! and I think living in NewBrighton so close to the ocean there is part of that. It's quite amazing, really made me feel at peace But alas I hear we have a Lake and River type thingy, not quite Birmingham's canal network but I'll do I loved San Diego BTW, I managed to get the clan down to Shamu's yard also spent a few days in Carlsbad, very coastal and seabreezy! beatiful place. Yep defo have to catchup some point!

Happy New Year All!
