I'm with Tonrob in spirit - sell by dates are for poofs (had fun explaining to a co-worker recently what a poof was...)...
... I had real, honest to God (though not in a Republican kind of way) salmonella poisoning while in the air force - that is THE most unpleasant experience (and I've been on rugby tours...) I ever had...

Microbiologically it's probably safe but as the taste will have deteriated I'd just chuck it.

You know what, I think it's the texture I can't stand, the taste is sufferable, but it's like putting baby food in your mouth, it just gross's me out.... I wonder if he decided to eat it?? Did he come back and say??

......the rice pudding report......
No sooner had I dropped hubby off at IAH to fly to Hamburg, I was back home making Zatarain's Rice Pudding safe in the knowledge I wouldn't have to share...
2 choices of cooking method: stovetop or microwave, I chose stovetop. Use a 3qt pan it says, I have either a 2qt or a 4qt, I know this because it is stamped on the bottom of the pan not because I know what a qt is. I chose the 4qt!
3 cups milk, 2 tbsp butter and the whole package of rice (which included powdery stuff and cinnamon). Bring to boil, simmer for 45 mins until rice is soft and stand for 5 mins.
[Note to self: I used whole milk, which is much yummier than 1%, remember to buy more and stash at back of fridge for personal use]
Recipe on back of package for bananas foster rice pudding: 1/4 cup butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup heavy cream, optional rum or vanilla extract all of which I just happened to have on standby. Bring to boil simmer for 10 mins.
Chuck 'nana on top of rice and caramel sauce on top of 'nana.
Result: Rice Pudding was great consistency and colour (just like ambrosia) with a faint taste of cinnamon (not overpowering at all). Would buy again!
3 photos, the package, 1 while in progress, 1 of bananas foster rice pudding and naked rice pudding...for the purist...
[Disclaimer: I may or may not have added more caramel sauce after these photos were taken before I ate mine. Also I may or may not have eaten more than one.]
