:whatchutalkingabout I left with an overwhelming sense of WTF and haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again since. I never did understand why everyone loved that series of films so much  |

http://images2.fanpop.com/image/phot...44-339-420.jpg Don't get me wrong, I thought the first Matrix was a masterpiece, but the second one was OK. I didn't like that seemingly endless scene where Neo was fighting 800 Agent Smiths. The Zion rave scene was also overly long and unnecessary. As for the 3rd movie, it was a big pile of crap and a huge disappointment, considering the anticipation and the fact that I specifically drove up to the Imax in West Palm Beach to see it. |

Re: It all boils down to this...
This is all completely off topic. But Matrix was ace!
It was so refreshing to have a Hollywood action film that asked questions about the nature of existence but is fun. It got a great balance of philosophy and action, It might not be as high faluting as reading Plato, Kant or Baudrillard but it way more entertaining. (I have to admit to having failed to understand a word of Baudrillard, so I do know my limits) |

I just think its part of his nature, but I know he probably wouldn't have done well in the mid-west or deep south.

I agree with you, but I cannot help but feel that the Wachowskis should have just left it at one movie, which would have left the rest to our imaginations. I cannot help but think that the sequels were rushed and ill thought out, especially the third and final movie. Fantastic concept though. I can watch the first Matrix over and over again and never get bored, but the 2 sequels are like adding brown sauce to lobster ;)

Re: It all boils down to this...
Ok, to summarize, we need to find for Ethelred a part of the country where there are pubs and beer and football and people who appreciate them, the employers are not insane exploiters of their minions, plus no relatives and The Matrix on a 24 hour loop.

Lion you forgot the countryside bit, Ethelred needs that, the PNW is trumps again. I still have a job, so your 'not insane exploiters of their minions' is true here. Pubs could be better, but I have little to compare within the states. I think some place in Cascadia might be the answer. |

The PNW is the place for football, 38,000 crowds at Seattle; 20,000 sell outs in Portland (but they are not very good).

I was forgetting the countryside, you're right. I've been to the PNW coast, and the mighty Pacific is spectacular. I've been up Mt. Rainier (well, as far as you can walk, no crazy ice climbing or anything), and ditto on the spectacular. As long as you are OK with marmots and grey skies and rain ALL winter, PNW might be a go.

So pitching any kind of tent is out of the question?
Well in Seattle it wouldn't be necessary. They have houses and everything there. Other than that, hang all your food in a bag from a rope slung between two trees. Or just keep it in the car. |
