Alien Number when?

Alien Number when?
Am basically at the end of the K1 process and still dont have any alien number? Is this typical? The faq seems to indicate it normally is printed on the 2nd NOA.
Our 2nd NOA from CSC had no number, figured it would come on the packet 3 or 4 information from the Sydney consulate. No number came with those either. Interview day has been and gone, and we have the visa in hand, the only number i see on that is the passport control number (red)..
At what point can we expect to get an Alien Number? Will one be issued at the POE? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

If you do not have one on the first or second NOA, you must be sure that at the POE when the I-94 is being placed in your passport that the agent also writes in your alien registration number. Don't just wait for it; ask for it.

We did I-130 but my wife did not get a "A" number until arrival at the POE,
hand-written into her passport. Perhaps K-1 is similar.

Strange,
My 2nd NOA from CSC had my A no on it as does the K1 Visa in my passport. It is under
the "Annotation" section at the bottom. It says :-
K1 PET APPROVED 05JUL01 BY INS CSC A** *** ***
