I am currently in the UK alongh with my US Fiance. I am financially OK but my girlfriend, the US citizen currently is over here with me. She has a job offer starting in about a month but has little assets.

Will this cause a problem at the interview or will we need to get a co- sponsor?

What sort of level of support must be shown by a sponsor?
I can't seem to find what is classified as the poverty line? Please can someone advise me what this is.

As you can tell, we have been apporved at the US side and now are just compiling the information for the Interview in London.

Any advice would be gratefully accepted

regards

Alan Curran

Suggest you read the following URL's. The URL for the poverty guidelines is listed in the FAQ page.

Alan -

I am currently wondering the same thing and am waiting to get a couple of responses
to my post on the Affadavit of Support (I-864). While you are waiting, check out the
following link to have some questions answered.

http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/pu...ets/affaqa.htm

Also, please share any info you have. I am making pretty good money now, but only
since getting my Masters last summer. So, I only have 8 mos. I hear that it depends
on the consulate too. My fiancee (from Canada) was asking around and saw that in an
interview at the Montreal consulate, there was no problem b/c the petitionee (the
Canadian) just graduated with a very marketable degree and her sponsor (the USC) had
just started working and did not have the 3 years above poverty line. The main
concern is that she immigrant will not come into the country and be a burden on the
US citizens - our own citizens do a good enough job of that already. So, it may
depend on the consulate, the interviewer and EACH (you both have to file I-864) of
your respective situations. Hope this has helped - some. . .

Jonathan

For a family of 2 (you and your spouse) thelevel you are looking for is around
$14,500. If the earnings are higher than that you should not have to worry. The
earnings they look at most closely are your current earnings.
