I can't believe that about TIVO! THat was the one feature that actually made me consider buying TIVO there is no point in getting it unless you can eliminate all the ads. Actually a friend of my husbands told me he'd heard that various companies and corporations were complaining to TIVO over the fact that people could, essentially, stop watching all their crappy commercials.
The sheer volume of adverts is what gets me, no wonder every kid in America has ADD. I once decided to time the adverts during The Oprah Winfrey Show and during 5 mintues of Oprah there were 3 ad breaks. Three for ****s sake! My American husband and I have just moved into our new apartment and we get free expanded cable included in the rent which means there is about 60 channels and I swear on my life there was nothing on this evening, we spent our whole saturday night channel flicking bored out of our minds. I would give a kidney to have the BBC in some shape or form on my telly and not BBC America, which we don't get, but I've seen at the in-laws and they just show that tangerine twat David Dickinson selling shite at auctions for days on end.

Anyway as for adverts the Old Navy one is really annoying especially when they give close ups of the happy singing choir in a neon fleece thats been made by some Indonesian 6 year old who hasn't had a day off work since they were a foetus.
That capital one card where the wife goes "Ooh those rates" and then hoards of vikings proceed to run through the shopping centre.
I like it on the drug commercials where after they've showed how happy and fulfilling your life could be if only you were taking their drugs they get some speed-talking specialist to tell you that side affects may include burning, itching, stinging, vomiting, dihorrea, your brain melting and your penis falling off.
Has anyone else seen the ad for the magic bullet blender (not the sex toy of the same name) that is where a couple make about 12 different meals for their sun-tanned california-beautiful friends and then some bloke behind the kitchen counter starts talking with an accent that sounds like he's from Wigan!!

All these drug adverts that then go on to say may cause...................etc!! well as already said what are they supposed to treat?? Some of them seem may seem to "cause" more than the potential benefit of taking them if the first place! I also think that they "encourage" people to ask for them without knowing if they really need it or if there is something better more suited to them! Self diagnosis based on adds is not generally a good thing.
Stupid car adds where they are on a closed course where they are either driving through New York (or another big city) and there is not another single car etc on the road, others where it blatently obvious that they are not on the road etc.
The burger king ad where it says "its not a real diet" well you would have to be bloody stupid to think it was!!
All these lawyers encouraging legal action I do not think is good, just encourages some to take action for stupid things and the only one who gets rich are the flaming lawyers.
Adds for local places that you know do not live up to there service.
Its real sad that we live in a world where they have to put all these "disclaimers" on these adds and that people are not brainy enough to know that its a closed course or whatever.

Personally I think that they should put a discalimer on Buick adds that say it may make you drive like an old fart and pull out in front of other drivers etc and a lifelong membership to McDonalds coffee clubs!!

The one for mould treatment that starts off with a load of people screaming at their mouldy tiles. Christ knows how they'd react if they saw something really scary, like a werewolf or summat.

Some ads piss me off just beause of their sheer incessant repitition - at the moment it doesn't seem to be possible to turn on the telly without seeing that Borders ad with all those people reading out/enacting bits of their favourite books or movies every two minutes.

And if there's one type of ad break I really hate it's the four-minutes-to-go break, where they go "we'll be right back after this break" and when they do come back it's simply to say thanks for watching, join us next time" and then you get the credits. Even The Daily Show does this.

In their time Buick have put out a few very special cars... The GS stage one
and the Grand National come to mind.. have driven both and their terriffic performance is WOW... just see the prices their fetch nowaday...

Seen it, it's wierd just one of those infomercials you can't stop watching. The guys sounds really wierd with his American pronunciation with a really broad northern accent. Come on if you're British, you're British..... pronounce the words properly!

I did not know that!! I would add though around here they do seem to be driven at slow speeds by the coffee club members though. They would spill it if they drove one of those fast ones!!
