I'm moving in 3 years time and although I know it's a long time off my hamsters actually could live 4 1/2 years so I'm curious. Can you take hamsters/gerbils etc abroad with you when you move? What quarenteen checks do they have to have and how long are you seperated from them? You probably think I'm crazy but rehoming hamsters in this economy would prove to be quite difficult and I don't want to give them up if I can help it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

The US doesn't automatically quarantine animals like the UK does. As long as the animal isn't prohibited and the shots are up to date, it's not a problem.
Check out:

Rabbits, Guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, and other
pet rodents:
There are no CDC or USFWS restrictions or requirements
on these animals if brought in as pets.
You'll want to check with the airline before booking the ticket.

mad yes...impossible probably, you could always slip them inside your bag and hope nobody finds them! To be honest, I have never heard of anyone bringing rodents into the US, it could possibly be illegal
Try googling it, you may get more help.

AFAIK, dogs and cats are the only pets allowed in cabin, so your hamsters would have to travel in the hold. You might want to talk to a specialist pet transportation company, several have been mentioned in similar threads.

I remember someone brnging over a chipmunk; she had a little carrier and had it in the cabin with her.

The smaller dwarf/Russian breeds live a shorter life span while, Siberians can live to 10 years of age
