I guess you don't know much about electrical equipment.

The "30 amp circuit" just means that it can deliver 30 amps if there is the demand. It does not mean that everything connected can or will draw 30 amps.

The sewing machine would draw no more than it's rated current which is easily calculated if you know the supply voltage and the impedance of the device connected.

I have heard this mistaken opinion so many times over the years I am quite prepared to believe that yet another person thinks it.

Goes along with the people who turn their A/C on and off manually because they have no clue how a thermostat works.

It is refreshing to find someone who knows it is crap.

Doesn't that just drive you insane?

Me: What are you doing?
Wife: Turning the thermostat up?
Me: Why?
Wife: Because it's cold outside!
Me: Arrrrgggghhh!!!

(invert everything for summer, of course!)

A friend of mine just bought a (power) converter and of course a plug adapter for her sewing machine when she moved from Scotland to the US. Worked fine, she said.

V=IR? :rolleyes:

Andy, c'mon.... lighten up a bit. I don't think it's wise to wire against code and without training, but hey, I also don't think it's likely to kill you or get you sued. There is a middle ground.

the converters i got have all the sockets in them so you don't need converters - sorry not trying to show off or anything! They are step up and down so they will work on US stuff in the UK if and when we go back
