Quite a disparity between different news sources, anything between 2 and 12 dead.

The Kennedy library explosion is now being reported as related to a fire and not connected with the others.

I realise that's no comfort whatsoever to those who are affected though.

Reminded me of the Warrington bombings. Bombs placed in 2 litter/trash bins the day before Mother's Day...when the IRA knew the shopping centers would be crowded...especially with children. :frown::thumbdown:

On a personal front, happy to hear that friends and family who live or went to the marathon are okay.

The already tight London Marathon security is going to be even tighter now. I did London twice and the security especially towards the end was very obvious but people will clearly find a way. I am sure Boston security was just as good.

I can't even begin to fathom why runners would be targeted. I've seen some of the pics from Boston and I just can't put into words. :(

The library tweeted it was an electrical fire in a new wing and all staff were safe.

FK Library ✔ @JFKLibrary

Fire in building is out, appears to have started in the mechanical room of new building. All staff and visitors are accounted for and safe.

Along the route, not that great, not compared to London with welding manhole covers down and the like.

As for target, well it's a state holiday and a massive gathering of people, so makes a obvious target.

Was thinking Hyde Park (& Regents Park) myself. Crowds of tourists watching an event, even if they were "establishment/military" events rather than sports.

And it's just struck me how revolting it is that there were so many IRA incidents that we could even have a discussion about the relative similarities. How on earth does any sane person think that this kind of thing actually progresses their cause. Sick sick sick.

.....and I hope Peter King does not trot himself out to tell us how terrible terrorism is.
