Default £5 United States entry fee

Four million Britons who visit the United States each year could face a £5 tourist tax to enter the country under new proposals.

There has been concern within the US tourist industry at the impact the increasingly stringent security regime has had on visitor numbers

They would join the citizens of 26 other countries who currently do not require an entry visa but would be asked to pay a $10 fee.

Aint going to break the bank is it? I guess if you can afford the flight an extra tenner or fiver aint much. Loads more lolly for the dear old gov hey!? Does that also mean all of us on here without the g.c. are going to pay it too? ho-hum, in for a penny in for a pound.

We'd do better to take the fiver and keep it in sterling.

How blooming ludicrous is this?

They're charging tourists to come and visit your country?

Geez.

Not far off. Just checked a BA flight to LHR and the fees/taxes are over $300 on a $542 ticket.

How much of that is Gov taxes and how much is the airline "Surcharge". I suspect it's mostly surcharge/taxes that go to BA.

Have a look at the Pakistan visa fees, massive variations.

Turkey charges.

Japan charges and exit fee.

Maybe it should be a reciprocal thing and the UK charges US tourists the same thing?

Travellers under the VWP pay anyway, but it's absorbed by the price of the ticket. Only when you cross by land do you have to pay it separately, $5 or something. I still don't think the air tax here is as bad/high as the UK.
