what status will I have
Hallo everybody,
soon I will file for change of status (I-539) at the end of January, 30 days before my actual status expires (at the end of february). From the day I send this application, what status will I be in?
Still the actual status J1 until it expires?
Already the new status L2?
I need to know this, since I am planning to finish my internship on the J1 wich ends end of february.
Another question:
What will be, if my J1 status expires at the end of february, but I still haven't received approval for change of status. From what I know, I am not illegal while waiting for the approval. But what is my status in the meantime?

Yes, unless INS approves the change of status earlier (which is unlikely).
