I think that you'll that the law states that you need a MA license:
"Residents of Massachusetts (MA) are required to have a valid MA license to legally operate a vehicle in MA. Out-of-state or foreign-licensed drivers MUST obtain a MA driver's license upon becoming a MA resident." from:
http://www.massrmv.com/rmv/license/index.htm

I am sure using your UK driving license is okay if you commit no traffic offenses. But the police may take a dim view if you break the law while driving on a UK license while giving a MA address. Consider, how can MA monitor your driving past on a UK license?

Also, there might be a problem if you were involved in an accident. Insurance companies are renowned for finding ways to avoid paying up. You may find that suddenly your insurance company will not accept your UK license, despite accepting your premiums. Do you have the insurance company explicitly stating in writing that they accept your UK license? If you do not then using the UK license is not worth the risk in my opinion.

Apart from all these details I find my CA license essential for getting into bars, immigration purposes (I was explicitly told to bring driving license to N400 interview), and ID for various banks, escrow, mortgage etc etc.

Where did you get this information? All the information I found (including info on the Mass RMV website) clearly states that Mass residents must have a Mass license to operate a vehicle

I've been stopped twice recently. Not an issue - in fact they said they were aware. It's fully stated on my insurance form.

However, I know it cant go on for ever, so I will take the test at some point.
