Default Which Visa Do We Need?

Hi all,

My husband has his own sports coaching business but we've been asked to send coaches to the USA but we're not sure which visa we would need to use. Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!

i think that would depend on what was entailed in 'send a few coaches to the U.S' , a few more details would be needed to be able to answer that question correctly , e.g would it be for actual work , a few meetings , transferring of coaches to a US branch of the same company etc

I suggest he get himself an experienced immigration attorney to help. He, personally, doesn't want to be responsible for the immigration process of other people.

Sorry for being so vague! We intend to send a couple of coaches to the USA for approx 6mths at a time that are employed by us in the UK (we are only based in UK) so we will invoice the American companies. The coaches would be teaching rugby to under priviledged children.

Who do you recommend we speak to to talk about this in more detail?

www.ailalawyer.com will find you a US immigration lawyer.

Don't be surprised if you find there is no suitable visa for this endeavour.

I agree. I've heard of coaches coming in as a J-1, but a SEVIS approved entity in the US issues the DS-2019. The arrangement being described in this thread doesn't seem to fit that. Other coaches have been known to get O-1 visas, but that doesn't fit either.

I would leave it in the hands of the American Organisations that will be paying you for their services.

Or more correctly, their Lawyers.

O1 could work.

H2b came to mind, too. But there's no obvious choice.

If it even still exists and is applicable...

B-1 in Lieu of H
"In rare cases, individuals may apply for a B1 or B1/B2 visa to perform H-1B work in the United States."

Never seen it mentioned on the UK embassy website.

Yes. My thoughts too. They are usually US employees of a US sporting body.

A consultation with an experienced immigration attorney [or two] is in order. Depending upon the facts, it may be possible to arrange for a valid legal scheme to accomplish your goals.
