Valid H4 Stamp is on a Cancelled Passport, Is the Visa Valid
Hi,
Will appreciate help,
Here is the situation,
My Wife came to USA on H4 Visa, but when she got her H4 VISA she had
her maiden on the Indian passport, the passport that she had since
before our marriage with her maiden name. After coming to USA she got
a new passport with the changed name last name, and in the process she
was issued a new passport with her new name and her old passport with
a stamp as "CANCELLED" but the VISA does not have any cancelled stamp
on it and is the H4 Visa is not due to expire soon. The issue is the
H4 VISA Stamp is on the old cancelled passport and not on the new
passport, I was advised to pin both the passports together.
My Question is
1. Is this H4 VISA valid, or does she require a new VISA.
2. If it is required then can we get this in India, or do we need to
get it here in USA. She is currently travelling INDIA.
Thanks
Srinivas

The visa is still valid. she doesn't need a new one. Make sure, in future she always travels with both passports!
