TSC update: I finally got through and learned something

I was on lunch break today and on my way out I just dialed TSC's number on my
cellphone and it just so happened that on the second redial (thank you Nokia for the
auto-redial feature on the 8290!) it RANG. Imagine my shock and dismay when not only
did it ring, but the attendant picked up the phone!
As usual, I entered my receipt number for our I-129F and it said it could not be
found. I decided to get in the hold queue and wait for an agent to pick up.
42 minutes later, an agent picked up. Here's what I learned:
1. Yes, our petition is in the computer, but it has not been assigned to anyone yet.
2. They are still working on cases from December of 2000.
3. She refused to give me a projected date range at ALL. (You can find this scary if
you want, I know I do). She simply offered, "I have no idea."
4. When asked about why my receipt number wasn't in the automated answering
attendant... she said, "Oh, that's because it's down. It's been down for a few
weeks." Any idea when it'll be back up? "No idea."
For those of you conjecturing on what's up at TSC... I smelled overload before... now
I also smell mismanagement.

It's DOWN???? Lovely. So I could be approved, and waiting for Elvis ( my own personal
adjudicator at the TSC) to get off his butt and mail me an approval some time in the
next 100 days, or I could be not approved, or I could be lost. Charmed, I'm sure.
Dang it, dang it, dang it.

Yep... it's apparently been down since middle of February... ironically enough, about
the time I sent our petition.

I swear, I a peaceful person, but if I ever meet the woman who recorded the
bleepin "We will send you notice when we reach a decision" message I may commit an
act of violence.

This isn't new for TSC. Back in '99 it went down a couple times when Sheila and I
began this process. It seems to happen on a regular basis. Just remember, the phone
system being down won't affect your petition. Hmmm.. with all the technology.. they
still can't seem to get a phone system to work right. :P

If you're stupid, I'm stupid. And I'm not stupid. It's all becoming quite bizarre,
really. Who knew the INS had their own personal shadowlands?

My understanding from the agent is that the automated attendant will answer the phone
and take your receipt number, it just won't give you any updated information.
Apparently the link between CLAIMS and the automated attendant is what is down.

When you speak to an agent, they look up the information that is in the computer
system that all personnel use inside the center. The automated phone attendant is
separate from that software and must be updated by the software to contain the
updated information. My understanding is that when a change is made on your petition,
the software will attempt to update the automated attendant.
But until they get the automated attendant, those updates will continue to fail.
