Default timeline for AOS "approval" in chicago

thought i would post the timelines for my husband's AOS experience in
chicago.

1) entered US on fiance (k1 visa) - july 2001
2) married - august 2001
3) filed AOS - august 2001
4) first EAD - nov. 2001
5) fingerprints - feb 2002
6) second EAD - nov 2002
7) second fingerprints - june 2003
8) AOS appointment letter - june 2003
9) AOS interview and approval - july 2003

a few points of interest:

1) it turns out that AOS applicants in chicago who entered US on fiance
visa do in fact need to sumbit the vaccination supplement at the time of
the interview - DESPITE the fact the AOS interview appointment letter
says that they don't. as a result, right after our interview we
immediately went to a nearby INS approved doctor and got the vaccination
supplement form filled out ($30). as per the interviewer's instructions
we then mailed this form in to him via certified mail.

2) in terms of the interview itself it went fairly smoothly. the
interviewer asked several times if we had met each other's parents. he
also wanted to know how we had met. he then asked me what other evidence
we had proving that we have a valid marraige. i then started pulling out
loads of evidence (joint bank statements, tax returns, personal mail
addressed to both of us, joint car loan info, wedding photos, photos
with friends, lease, credit card bills, etc.) at this point the
interviewer (a bit overwhelmed with all the paper) said i could stop and
then placed the info i gave him in our file.

3) interestingly he neither looked at nor took our new affadavit of
support (I864 and I864A), pays stubs or job letters.

4)he also did not ask from affadavits from friends certifying that we
have a valid marraige.

at the end of the interview the ins officer advised us that our AOS
approval letter would arrive in the mail within 60 days. he emphasized
the need to make multiple copies of this letter as it's the only proof
that my husband will have of adujusting status until he gets callled in
for his greencard stamp.

interestingly he never mentioned that my husband would be getting a
conditional greencard (interview took place 3 weeks before our 2nd
wedding anniversary) - so we are naively optmistic that maybe a
permanent greencard will arrive in the mail!

my general advice - 1) overwhelm the interviewer with evidence - we had
a 3 ring binder that was about 6 inches thick (and this was just the
originals) and 2) make your answers as brief and to the point as usual -
most of these guys just want to make sure that they have all the
documentary I's and T's documented - not to hear your life stories.

hope this is of benefit to others going through AOS in chicago. and yes
i will post my experience on the AOS interview experience web page.
