Default thinking of re-filing I-485 in L.A.

Hi, i filed for AOS in NYC back in April 2002. My husband and I are planning to move to L.A. as soon as I get my renewal EAD and AP from the NYC office (should be at the beginning of october 2003 - that's when the 120 days are up)

Here's my dilemma: should i risk a file transfer from NYC to LA (i.e. no way of knowing when i would get my GC as many problems might happen) or re-file a new I-485 in LA (GC timeline there is about 7 months).
Are there risks to doing that? I don't mind paying the fee again - it should not be too much money since i already will have my AP and EAD valid for one year, so no need to pay the fees again for those.
Would i need to abandon my I-485 in NYC? Can you even do that? Would my EAD and AP issued by NYC be valid regardless?
For all i know they might have lost my file in NYC anyway - it just happened to my friend... she's been in contact with Hillary

Thanks for any help.

Hi:

I'm a member of a small BCIS-Bar workgroup here in Los Angeles.

First, don't rely on that timeline. There are big changes in the air and the marching orders from DC are to get rid of the backlog -- and this will be at the expense of NEW filings.

Also, in the case set up, they will check the computer and your NYC case is going to show up and muck up the works.
