SSN in CT. A piece of advice.
Hi everyone !
I want to post my experience regarding SSN in CT... bad experience at the mometn so other people don´t go over the same.
I applied a week after arriving on K-1. They were not very nice but I gave them everything they wanted, 2 photo ID, my passport + K1, birth certificate, filled form... After the copied everything they said: It will go to INS for checking and you´ll have it in 3 weeks.
Well, 3 weeks went by and I got nothing so I decided to go back to the office this time with my fiance. The woman who processed my application the first time said that my name was nowhere and that she could not find any aplication at all.... To make it short I´ll say that after a while she said we would have to do it all over again. This time we made sure she gave us a receipt.
So, this happenned in the New Haven office and if I were you in CT, I would go to another office. Just my opinion.

Re: SSN in CT. A piece of advice.
Is it possible the person that took your application lost it on purpose?
Interesting, because sometimes I question how receptive some government
employees really are when dealing with foreigners. And occationally I see
ugly prejudices.
When my wife and I visited our local SSA office we sat in the waiting area
and observed the three SSA workers taking applications. Two of the workers
were very nice and even spoke the applicants language. They smiled and
seemed genuinely helpful. Of course we got the third SSA worker that seemed
to go out of her way to make our lives very difficult. No smile or a hello.
She proceded to ask for documentation that was not needed. After I corrected
her several times on procedure (I prepared with SSA documents), she went off
with our paperwork in a huff and returned to tell us it would take a while
but the SS# would come. Maybe I'm paranoid, but it seemed as if she did not
want our visit to succeed.
We are still in the AOS process and have encountered mostly nice, generous
individuals, but some seem to purposely impede the system. I'm not sure if
its out of laziness or prejudice.
Any comments?

We used a different office in CT and I think I was the only English speaking
person in the place. We didn't have any problems though.
