Default Some advice please - washed passport!

Hi all,

Recently found this site so I thought I'd try and get some advice.

Long story short, I put my passport, and the L1-B inside it, through the wash. Stupid mistake but I didn't think too much about it as I assumed that I should be able to get a new passport and get the visa re-issued (with associated costs to me of course!)

However, it seems that it's not as simple as this. I can't get a straight answer from anyone but it looks like I have to reapply for a new visa which seems a little extreme. The passport itself is not too bad - I've used it to fly internally while I'm waiting for my drivers license, and the visa is fully legible but I know they will not accept it if I need to enter the US with it. I94 has lost the stamp but the number is still there so that should be OK.

Work are making enquiries with the lawyer as to the best course of action but it I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences and what the outcome was. If it makes any difference, the GC application process has been started.

Thanks for any advice.

John

Sorry, maybe not clear enough - I may have had a drink when I posted!

Anyway, the passport and visa need to be replaced. The question I have is can I just get a new passport and then send it off to get my existing visa reprinted and stuck in or do I have to go through the whole application process and get a brand new visa?

Thanks,

John

Oh... I think it was more likely that, despite what has happened, Mr. Folinsky (an experienced immigration attorney... and he's right about 99% of the time!) did not see an issue, and you're worrying over nothing.

Ian:

Make it more like 95%.

I didn't want to presume too much! To the good folks in these forums, 95% seems a bit low!
