Default Selective service question on N-400 form (applicaiton for US citizenship)

Hi Folks,

My brother-in-law has his interview for citizenship tomorrow and as he was going back through his form he realized he answered the question about selective service registration incorrectly.

Quesiton 33: Are you a male who lived in the US at any time between 18th and 26th birthdays in any status except as a lawful nonimmigrant?

He answered "NO" to the question when he should have answered "YES". Also he has already registered for selective service several years back.

He doesn't have the original selective service registration paper that they send but he does have the number and date regsitered (but he didn't put this information on the form).

Any suggestions on what he should do tomorrow? If they don't mention this at all should he bring this topic up? If they do bring it up what is going to happen? Will they request more information ?

Thanks

If he's over 31, it doesn't really matter how he answered.

This is one of those occasions when if they don't ask, he should volunteer that he answered incorrectly. The fact that he has registered will be in his favor.

Nothing bad will happen. He'll be given an opportunity to correct what he wrote. If he needs proof of registration, he'll be given time to get that information to the officer. His approval may be delayed until the info is provided, but his application certainly won't be denied because of it. If he has the number and date handy, that's likely all he'll need.

Bottom line... this isn't a deal breaker for him!

www.sss.gov

He can confirm right there. Also, it is possible to register there if he has not registered.
