Returning to States after a previous B1 extension....

Thanks to all who can give their ideas/facts/experience:
Suppose a woman, (who had come to the US on a tourist visa, returned to Mexico a week
later then returned to the States for 9months after filing for an extension on the visa)
who then, returned to Mexico, wanted to return. Suppose she got through immigration at the
airport without being asked any questions (through experience, they do not ask many
questions at the POE where the return will take place).
Now, if this woman got married, while back in the states, (after not being questioned or
having any suspiscions cast on her) would the prior extension request (she left, prior to
a decision and sent a letter to the office, stating so. notarized, etc...) on her B1 visa
rais red flags all over the place with INS when applying for AOS?
Setting any concerns about getting past the POE, what would be a good amount of time to
wait before returning on a tourist visa to avoid any accusations on INS's part at the
AOS juncture?
Thing is, we don't think we can wait the 4 to 12 months it might take to get the K1 visa.
TIA

If AoS is filed based on marriage to USC, you are worrying about shadows.

If you are setting ASIDE the concerns about getting in through the POE, you have no
concerns at all.
