Default Renew drivers license during H1B extension processing period

I am writing this to let others (like me) have a easier time in
figuring out how to go about renewing their driver's license during
the period when their employer had filed for their H1B renewal (2nd
three year period) and the docs haven't arrived as yet - but their
driver's license is about to expire....or will surely expire before
the extension confirmation comes.

I had tried to search user groups when I was facing this problem; but
there was no real discussion on this topic.

The process is simple:
1. Get your ORIGINAL I-797C (notice of receipt) that was sent to your
company stating that they received your renewal docs.

2. Take your passport and

3. Take the stub from your PREVIOUS issued 1-797A (notice of
confirmation of H1B). You should have got a stub from your employer -
and if you haven't; simply ask them for the ORIGINAL I-797A that
confirmed your previous H1B appointment.

That's it - go to the Drivers License office and they will give you a
1-year driver's license.

You should go to the driver's license office BEFORE your current
driver's license expires. If you were "scared" not to have gone to
them as yet - and your driver's license has already expired; then you
need to simply take one more document:

4. Take an official letter (on letter head) from your employer stating
that you are currently employed with the company and that they have
filed for your H1B renewal and requesting them to issue you a driver's
license. THAT'S IT.

I had about two weeks of sleepless nights wandering what I will do if
they say they can't renew my license before the extension is granted.
Given that the processing is backed up by like 4 months - it would
mean not being able to get to work or anywhere else - for 4 months!

Anyway, if you are reading this and it helps you - my job is done.

Best of Luck!
