This may sound crazy, but what color is a green card? I have never seen one. Someone
just the other day told me it is not green, but it is white. I am very confused.
HELP!!!! D

It may have, at one time, been green. One common theory today is that it got the name
from "the grass is greener on the other side of the hill/fence/valley/mountain" ...
So this card is an opportunity to get to somewhere "greener" one hopes than where one
is right now!

Yes, yellowish-white. Once upon a time "green cards" really were green - my
grandmother's was forest green, heavy card stock with black printing. Anyone with a
laser printer and access to a good office supply store could print one up today, so
they've gotten more sophisticated for security reasons.

Have a look at http://www.fels.org/insforms/insdocs.htm which has "A Guide To
Selected U.S. Travel/Identity Documents For Law Enforcement Officers" (INS form
M-396). The latest so-called green card is called the "Permanent Resident Card".
Previous versions say "Resident Alien" and were known as "Alien Registration Receipt
Cards"; they were blue or pink, depending on the edition. You'll also find samples of
border crossing cards ("laser visas"), EADs, and other fun things.
