Hello all,

I have a question about my permanent residency process.

I filed for consular processing after getting the I-140 (Immigrant petition) approval
and am awaiting the interview.

Before I can leave the US for an interview in my country of birth, do I need to file
for a sailing permit? I have read on the internet as well as in IRS publication 519
that it is needed before a person on an H-1B can leave the country.

However, I have traveled quite a lot on the H-1B visa and have never been asked for
it before.

What do the attorneys suggest when they file through the CP route?

Alien.

p.s.: My attorney is investigating the issue after I asked the question.
