I didn't file an income tax return for last two years since i was a full time
graduate student and just started working last month and making enough money to
satisfy the requirement (about 45K). Now I wants to sponser my wife in India (I-130
appl.). My family size is of '4' with total combined income of about $30,000 during
those two years. I heard that you have to have income tax return in order to file a
form I-864 (since, I am sponsering my spouse). Is it true? What are my options? Does
this makes any difference in getting visa?
Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The I-864 requires the returns IF you were required to file. If you were not required
to file them, you must simply, provide an explanation.
Since you just started the job, and you are not providing previous tax returns,
perhaps you should include both, your recent pay stubs, and a letter verifying your
employment from your employer.
