They will do the FBI background check on your behalf, don't worry about the US police certificate.

You might find this useful too, the police service charges $25 for the same service that the RCMP does for free, so you have to be here physically to actually obtain it

I don't know what your wife's status is, but if she is Canadian then she will ultimately need one too. Might as well get yours and hers at the same time.
