Default ovestaying F1 Visa

Hi everybody,
I am an F1 student in USA. I went to school from 2003 thru Dec. 2005.
Got my Associate's Degree. I did my Optical Practical Training from
Feb.13, 2006 thru Feb. 12, 2007 according to my Employment Authorization
Card. I am half way through my 60 days grace period.I don't plan on
overstaying my visa but I could use a few extra days here.

Here is my dilemma. My I-20 is obviously expired and I haven't enrolled
at any other college but I have an F1 Visa on my passport that expires
on Feb. 2008. It's a sticker that I got from the embassy in Rome before
I started my studies in Chicago.

Do you think it will be ok for me to overstay a couple of more days seen
that I have that visa still valid? Or they will check my expired I-20?

Thank you.
Elisabetta

The visa is only good for getting you into the country, it's all about the status you maintain whilst your in it...I don't really know the details of the I-20 and if you get an I-94 or not, so can't comment.

You might want to see if you can COS to B 1/2 status, with reason to wrap up your affairs before leaving....

You are currently in the US illegally, you need to leave.

No he isn't, if he is in the 60 day grace period after OPT.

First off, please post in a separate thread. This thread is about F1, not about
visitor visas. It is rude to hijack a thread.
Second, a visitor gets an I-94 with a date on it. That's a hard date. The
visitor has to leave before that date.

I disagree - you have 60 days from the expiration date on your OPT card to either be enrolled, or to leave. After that 60 days you become an overstay.
