You can't draw any sort of inference from these two random events. They are not linked together except by the sheer coincidence that both people happen to be posting in this forum.

I finally have my passport back with a one year visa to sum up the experience you have to plan 2 year in advance if you wish to travel to the us in the summer months 1 year to get your visa and 1 year to save for your holiday to day I am disappointed is an understatement the whole process needs to be changed

Come on Ian, can't wait for your response to the above post. Go for the jugular .....lol

But on a more serious note , do not forget folks you will still be subject to probably being pulled to one side for a few questions as you board your flight to the U.S. and definitely to a secondary interview in a room at your arrival in the U.S.

Even people who have had visas in the past need to be checked again to make sure they haven't reoffended.

I understand your frustration, but this is the price you pay for your dance with the devil. If it makes you feel better, you can blame the system for your frustration - but never forget that had you not committed whatever offense it was that required you to need a waiver in the first place, we wouldn't now be here having this pleasant conversation.

You may recall an unfortunate series of events in the US in September 2001. That's where all this started. So - one day, perhaps, when the US is no longer the target for terrorist activity and when millions of undocumented aliens cease to cross US borders... maybe they'll relax the requirements. I doubt, however, that it'll happen in my lifetime, and I doubt it'll happen in yours either.

I don't expect they will change anything but it may be beneficial if you could send documents via email maybe or post if you have no further offences and your situation has not chanced they can still do the checks without an interview I know it is what it is but it's irritating

You are taken in to a separate room for questioning

It's not the interview that takes the time though, is it? It's the 7+ months you have to sit by while everyone else in the adjudication queue is dealt with first. There really is no way to speed that up without a) allowing certain applicants to jump the queue or b) the US authorities providing extra resources to deal with the numbers of applicants a bit quicker. Neither of which are going to happen.

But something has changed. The US took note of the complaints about inconsistency in the decisions between Embassies when those decisions were made at each Embassy. So they changed things so that everything now goes to the US to be adjudicated and the decisions are consistent. The now huge delays are a result of that.

Is that a statement or a query ?

If a statement .....yes
If a query.......yes ,they take you to a secondary interview room where they do checks and ask you questions. This could take 5 minutes or a lot longer depending on your situation.
My experience recently was 10 minutes.
