Default naturalisation criteria

Am I correct in assuming that the 5 year residency criteria for naturalization is reduced to 3 years if you are married to a US citizen and if that is correct would the children of the permanent resident be able to apply for naturalisation ofter 3 years also, even though they are older than 18 but where less than 18 when they were included in the petition.
While I am here can anyone tell me approx how long the naturalization process takes and where are my best resources to find out more about the procedure? (apart from here of course)
thank you in advance
