N400 Questions..........

N400 Questions..........
Real simple question that just struck me:
I'm applying for citizenship based on 3 year marriage to USC, not 5 year residency. All questions in the N400 are '5 year' based. Do i need to answer them on the 5 year basis or just the 3 year basis?
(I ask because I'm sure i have read that if applying under the 3 year rule you just answer the questions based on 3 years and not 5)........am i rambling?!?
