Thumbs up N-400 Application

Hi all,
been a while since I've been on here!!

So the time has come after nearly 8 eventful years to file for naturalization.

I have gone most of the way through the N-400, and when I get the to end, having filed copies of all the items listed, I when I try to move onto the next section, the site seems to be very insistent about "extra information", and saying that now is the time, extra information can help etc etc etc. As I have a tendancy to over think things like this, is there something else I need to be uploading? Should I get references or letters from friends, relatives etc?

Or am I doing like I usually do, and massively overthinKing this?

Oh just another question, is applying for naturalization the same as applying for citizenship?

I await your usual hugely helpful comments that I have no doubt will put my over active mind at rest

Thanks in advance,

The naturalization means you will no longer be defined as a [legal] alien.

It seems that people’s experiences vary a lot based on where they live, especially in terms of wait times.

The 2 threads below have some background based on my experience last year:

N400 online submission - application summary missing data

N400 Interview next week - questions

Thank you, I will have a read.

What about the " extra information" element, should I include references etc, or would that not really be required?

I didn't know what they meant either to I just wrote a quick 2 paragraph cover letter detailing the basis for my application and my contact information. I think it was pointless, but I know what you mean about overthinking it.

I looked back at the online form summary, I was filling under 5 years, but am also married to a USC (by birth) Looking at my evidence submitted (I don’t recall what was required vs. extra) I see I submitted copies of:
- my green card
- my USC wife and 2X sons US passport picture pages.
- a copy of our marriage certificate
- 3 years IRS tax transcripts (I took another year to interview and it was copied / looked at).

I think some of the above was asked for because I toggled between the 3 and 5 year option online (as I was eligibility for either). But went for 5 year option because I have done the whole process on my own (via work) and none of my benefits are based on my USC wife.

I did take pictures of our house / family / wedding etc to the interview and he glanced at them, but only while we were making small talk.

I filed based on marriage to a US citizen.
I submitted copies of house rental agreements, mortgage statements and car loans that contained both my wife's name and mine during the time since our marriage. Some of that likely wasn't necessary.
