Question Interview times

We have our interview date!! Filing I-130 in London. The interview time is 10.00am. Has anyone any idea how long the interview takes and also what kind of things you get asked?

Are you sure? The IR5 category is for a parent of a US citizen who is obtaining PR status by adjustment of status. The category for a parent of a US citizen who is obtaining PR status by an immigrant visa is IR0.

Doesn't matter if it is a 1, 2 or 5. The interview and its timeline will be exactly the same.

Not exactly true, I'm certain they won't ask any questions about when they got married/intend to marry in this interview

Agreed, the interviews and timelines are essentially the same.

And to correct myself, I had it backwards - IR5 is for the visa, IR0 is by adjustment of status. I apologize for creating the confusion.

(Still, wondering why a post dealing with parental visa was moved to the section of the forum dealing with marriage-based visas.)

I moved this thread to the US Immigration forum, because it specifically is NOT a Marriage-Based case. The OP is obtaining an IR5 visa via her USC daughter.

Yes, the interview and timeline is probably the same as a marriage-based case....but for the sake of consistency, I am keeping all of Auntieginzey's posts in this forum. I have PM'd her to ask her to continue posting in this forum, since her case is not marriage-based.

Thank you,
Rene

And the number of questions asked on that topic is essentially only one..

How long married?

Questions on intent to marry are not for this category visa which would be the K-1 not IR

Same questions asked of both categories:

Where do you intend to live, perhaps work, grandkids, whatever.

Auntieginzey,

Not everyone takes the time to go back and read all your previous posts. It is helpful if, each time you post, you mention which visa you're getting. For you, it's an IR5, based on an I-130 filed by your USC daughter.

To answer your questions, the interview itself probably takes 10 minutes. But you could be waiting around there about 4 hours or so. My understanding is that you will first see a person who collects all your paperwork (this is not the interview). They you wait until your turn comes to speak with the ConOff (this is the interview). At the end of the interview, they will let you know if you're approved or if you need to submit any more information (or in a rare case, denied). If approved, you will leave your passport with the ConOff, and you will go to another counter to arrange for DX Courier for return of your passport with visa inside. It can take about a week (or more sometimes) to get your passport/visa back.

As for what questions they will ask...most likely they will confirm the information you provided on your application forms, and will ask about the relationship between you and the petitioner (your daughter), perhaps they will ask about your future plans in the USA. Nothing you won't know the answers to.

Good luck, and keep us posted on how it goes.

Rene

It was originally posted in the main US forum.

The drop down slipped when I moved it and it went down one more forum.
