Default INS rules on H1B status expiry

Hi,

Reading the previous posts about the person with pending baby and about
collecting Unemployment insurance the question is begging to be asked

Shouldn't something be done about the abrupt and unexpected termination of
H1B status????!?????

After all these people are (or were) legal workers contributing to the society
(some may disagree but still) and paying the EI premiums plus Medicare... for
which one is unable to collect the benefits. Why should they be treated like
criminals for no fault of their own. It is truly heart wrenching to hear these
tales.
Moving is not an easy task, period.

One cannot be expeted to simply pull the roots and move on. Doesn't one still
have to get a clearance from IRS for taxes owed before being allowed to go out
of the country ( forget the form#). Where is the time to do all this (close
accounts, pay bills, break leases ...)?

There seems to be a lot of ambiguities in this areas. The only certainty is
you are illegal the moment the employment stops. Seems cruel. Maybe it is
just me....

PS. The H1B status could be made valid until the person is eligible to collect
Unemplyment Insurance payments (after all that's what it is there for, isn't
it?
it is not a social benefit contraty to some erroneous beliefs) or such similar
rules.
Consider the fact that a lot of ILLEAGALS are treated better with medicare etc.

Makes me wonder .........mmmmm.

My $.02 woth.
