Default I131 taking 999 days (3 yrs) !!! please comment

Hi every one,

I applied for I131 refugee travel document in Dec. 29, 2002
and received notification dated Jan. 3, 2003. since then
I have been checking the status online and it keeps telling
me it will take about 180 - 240 days.
Last week all of a sudden the online status is telling me
it will take 969 - 999 days (!!!), i.e. almost three years.
Does this make sense?
from what I have seen on some websites it should take
2-3 months.
Anybody has experience with this kind of document?
I am an asylee. Does the country of origin has anything
to do with it?

Please help if you have any advice.

Thanks.

G.

Hmmm, so I am not alone after all.

I have a pending application for Advance Parole (based on EB I-485) and the
system started showing me the same prompt (969 - 999 days) since last week.

I am not familiar with the refugee travel document, but my guess is that
this has nothing to do with your status or country of origin.

Good luck

another detail:
I am actually a perm. resident as a direct result of
asylum.
I have also an I90 renewal of expired Green Card pending
I wonder if that also has something to do with
it?

I also just found out the 999 days processing
time for all of our relatives' I131s.
It was 7-8 months just about two weeks ago.
This is about the time that the I131s were said
to be processed. Is it an indication that
the I131s are being processed?
If it's going to take 3 years now, should my
relatives come back to the US to fulfill the
residency requirement of not being out of the
country for over 12 months?
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

http://www.shusterman.com/nsc.html says that I-131 reentry permit
applications are taking about 11 months. The 999 day figure has no relation
to reality. The http://www.shusterman.com/nsc.html "processing date" has a
relationship to reality, although it is not a promise.

As to whether or not your relatives should come back, I think they can wait
until close to the one-year mark. If I were them, I would return within the
one year allowed, unless the reentry permit has been issued. In other
words, don't bet your PR status on it.

I just checked again yesterday and found the status changed to
the effect that it has been approved on Mar.6th, about the
same time that the strange "999 days" message started showing
up.
I checked my mail the same day and found the travel document
mailed by the INS. Took exactly 3months from application
mailed to receiving the travel document.

So apparently that mysterious message is just a computer glitch
when when your application is approved.

Good luck.
