Re: I have to share this story..
It can take some time to go into labour after one's waters are broken. There's a time limit in the US from water breaking until labour is induced if it hasn't started on its own (I mentioned this earlier in the thread) as there is an increased risk of infection without "intact membranes." However, I don't know what the UK guidelines are. The condition is called PROM (premature rupture of membranes). No direct connection to an evening at the proms or a high school prom, although both are romantic events that could lead to a baby!

Tell her to get a zipper job. Much quicker. But, if she's been in labour all this time it might have already been suggested to her.

Am I terrible to be thinking of Vivian's "baby" in The Young Ones?

Re: I have to share this story..
When my waters broke it was 2.00am on a wednesday morning. I was told to come into hospital (i was only 35 weeks 2 days pregnant) I was examined and put on antibiotics. Contractions started and stopped for 2 days until the friendly junior doctor came on along at 1.00am Friday morning and was surprised to see me still pregnant and in pain, and said we are going to get this baby out now. Well 9 hours later, after being put on drip to increase contractions (painful) gas and air and pethidine she arrived by ventouse (suctioned out) and the pleasure of quite a few stitches.
I hope they induce her soon, as it is very uncomfortable and stressful for her.

in the uk - they will leave you 24 hours after waters break and then start induction (unless there is meconium in the water and then they will leave much less time and monitor baby for distress much more - happened to me but they said they would induce me in 7 hours if i didnt start myself but luckily i started an hour later and was finished an hour and a half after that!)
and my mate went for her first scan this this morning for her third pregnancy - and found it shes having twins so going from 2 kids to 4 in one go! Id be bloody terrified! she lives in a v. small 2 bed flat as well so will have to move house if she can!
