Default I-485 pending - should I renew H-1B or apply for EAD

Hi,

I currently have an H-1B visa and submitted my I-485 application to adjust my status to permanent residence (based on marriage) in July 2007. I did not apply for an EAD at that time.

My H-1B status expires in November 2008. The Washington DC office is currently processing I-485 applications from November 2006, so it is unlikely that my application will be approved before my H-1B expires.

I am not sure whether it would be best to renew my H-1B visa or whether I should apply for an EAD. Can anybody help?

Thanks!

If you apply for the EAD based on your marriage to a USC, you will be free to work for any employer. That might give you more freedom.

Why not do both?
