Does anyone know how long it takes for a cabled petition to reach the foreign
consulate? Is it a few days? A week? Thanks for you help.

It can take days to weeks to months. It is always a good idea before you pay for an
approval to be cabled that you check to see if your consulate even accepts cabled
approvals. Some do not. Even if they do, just because it gets cabled in a few days
after approval does not mean that the consulate picks up the approval and acts upon
it right away. If you KNOW they DO accept cabled approval, I would wait 14 days
after you received the approval notice and then call the consulate to find out what
is going on. As well, the mail system can be slow in getting out the Packet #3 to
the alien fiancé(e). It really depends on the consulate and how fast they respond
to things.

Good luck!

According to an attorney who used to post here, it can take up to a month for a
service center to send a cable: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&safe=off&ic=1&-

My petition was approved Friday, April 13th by VSC. All my info was in Bombay
consulate when my fiancee checked on the following Monday, April 16th.

My approval in TSC was 22 MAY 2001, as of 3 JULY the embassy had not received it.
They are quoting two months after approval for petition to be entered into the
computer. I did not pay extra for a cable to be sent. I read that all petitions to
Manila were going VIA FED EX anyway. Must be the 60 day special delivery. Of course,
they may have it long before that time.

I expect it to entered this week. But I have been wrong before ..

Actually I had an original NOA #2 dated April 12, 2001. Valid from
4/11/2001 to 8/11/2001. It told me my case was approved and forwarded to the
consulate I listed on the original petition. 11 weeks and still no word from
the consulate on whether they received the approved petition or not. A couple
of days ago, I received another NOA #2 but this time it was dated June 27,
2001. This time the notice said that the notice was being sent to the consulate
and the consulate was notified by cable as well. I didn't say that the first
time and I never filed an I-824 or paid the $120. The validity date remained
the same from 4/11/2001 to 8/11/2001. My congressman's office also told me the
approval was being sent to the consulate via FedEx. One more thing, the 2nd NOA
#2 I received said Ammended Approval Notice. The first just said Approval
Notice. Has anyone ever heard of this type of situation. Will FedEx arrive
faster than the cable? What's the point of a cable then? Thanks for the input
to the previous question.

It takes about 5 minutes a cable is just a FAX as stated to me by the Embassy in
Warsaw. When the service center actually does it is another story. Mine took three
weeks before the CSC did it. I am now on week 6 since we got approved and still not
interview date set. Here is my timeline and I am still waiting on the interview date.
Maybe sometime in August.

Timeline

March 21,2001 Sent I-129F package to California Service Center (USPS Mail
Return Receipt)

March 22,2001 INS Received (as stated on my return receipt)

April 2, 2001 Date on 1st NOA

April 6, 2001 Received 1st NOA in mail

May 22, 2001 Date on 2nd NOA

May 26th, 2001 Received 2nd NOA in mail

May 29th, 2001 Faxed 2nd NOA to Warsaw and OF-169 (Packet #3) requesting provisional
file be opened.

June 6, 2001 E-mailed Warsaw requesting provisional file be opened.

June 11, 2001 Received E-mail from Warsaw giving us the provisional case file number.

June 19, 2001 E-mailed Warsaw requesting information if they received I-129F
package from INS.

June 20, 2001 Received E-mail from Warsaw stating they received fax notification on
6/12/01(cable) from INS service center of I-129F petition approval, currently waiting
on real package to arrive and are doing routine name check clearance once that is
completed they will schedule interview.

June 26, 2001 Called Warsaw, today a completed name check was received from FBI at
the Embassy, was told to call back next week for interview date. Currently they are
scheduling interviews for late July 2001.

July 2, 2001 Called back Warsaw they told me now that I need to call back after July
5th and that they are now scheduling for August.

The actual cable itself appears to be some kind of telex service. My fiancee advised
today that she has received her packet #3 in the mail on 04 July. This is amazing
given that I have not yet received my I797 approval confirmation in the mail yet (I
learned of our petition approval via the phone system on 29 June)

The above substantiates the theory that fast expedition of cable instructions from
the INS to the consulate depends on the consulate and the INS service center.

In our case, we used VSC to Singapore...
