HRR = home residency requirement. Many J visas require you to go home for 2 years after your visa ends, rather than adjusting status to another visa type in the US. I think you can apply for a waiver from this requirement.

Sorry... HRR means "Home Residency Requirement". Many J1 visas require that, after your time in the US, you are obligated to return to your home country for 2 years. If you have that requirement, you can not apply for any other visa until either the residency requirement is met or you get a waiver of the residency requirement.

Any ideas about what? You have not answered the question as to whether your visa has the HRR - this influences any other type of visa you could get.
