I suggested that he count 3 years from the time he finished with parole/probation etc. The 5 years of good moral character for naturalization is a different animal.

2 years.

From what I've been told the minimum is 3 years from the time the person serves their sentence if any and has been free of restrictions like parole, probation etc.
