H4 visa questions...
Hi,
I'm currently working in the US on an H1-B work visa (UK citizen). I am getting
married later in the year to my fiance (also UK citizen). I was hoping someone might
be able to shed some light on the process of getting her a valid H4 spousal visa.
What are the steps involved? Will she be eligable for a social sec. no. in the US (my
health coverage plan requires one). I live in CA, USA. Any help is much appreciated.

She needs a copy of the front and back of your I-94, of your H1B approval notice, and
your marriage certificate.
She makes application to the US embassy.
She will NOT be eligible for an SSN. She can get an ITIN from the IRS and can in fact
you can start that now. Get the needed form for the ITIN from the IRS. The ITIN can
usually be used in place of an SSN.
The health plan cannot demand an SSN.

I enrolled my foreign wife in my company's health plan when she had no SSN at all
(they made up a dummy one for their system). I don't see why your company's plan
would demand one for your wife.

Bringing spouse on H-4 is pretty simple. Generally there are no questions asked at
the consulate. Your spouse need to present a copy of the original application,
original approval notice, proof of marriage,
