Hi guys, I'm back for another question! We sent forms off and received a letter stating that they want information on my federal tax return. And if I was exempt, why was I with a written explanation. Well since my partner has been supporting me in the uk for the last 3 years I haven't worked. How can I prove that?!

It sounds like you don't need to prove that your partner has been supporting you. It sounds like you only need to write an explanation of why you were not required to file a tax return.

Working is not the only source of income one can have, though.

In my opinion, you need to find the relevant information at www.irs.gov, which says if you earn less than X amount of money per year, you are not obligated to file a US tax return. Print that page, plus a written explanation that you earned under that specific dollar amount, therefore were not required to file a US tax return.
