Default Entering USA with different passport

My kids UK passports are stuck in Washington being renewed.

We are due to fly shortly to Europe. We have no issues to fly out as the kids have dual nationality and can use another passport to fly.

The problem is when we come back to the USA the passport they will be entering on will not be the same as the one used to get the green cards (we have used the UK passports on all the various immigration matters).

The kids have entered the USA numerous times with their UK passports and green cards.

Does it matter that this time it will be with a different passport?

It is my understanding that all that the kids need to enter the US is their green cards so the fact that they used a non-UK passport to board the flight to the US should not be an issue.

We just did a trip across to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and returning US immigration were only interested in my Green Card not my British passport. Interestingly, the same was true of Canadian immigration too!

The resident alien card, by itself, is valid for entering the US from anywhere in the world. No passport is required. It's just so common that people will also have a passport because of the other countries' requirements.
