Re: E2 Visa
A quick search here, E2 is usually for buying a business, and only if you are brave and have no other option.

Re: E2 Visa
The employer (the business investment in the U.S.) must have the qualification as an E-2 company.
The Employee must have the same nationality of the employer.
Employees must have the qualifications to fill the offered position, and the position must be either an Executive position, a Managerial position, or one requiring skills which are “Essential” to the Employer
And no diect possibility of a green card

Are not most E2's usually Business owners, by definition an employee using an E2 must be a pretty small sub set. I only remember coming across posts by 2 of them, but I may not have being paying attention.

Re: E2 Visa
E-2 visas are commonly known as the "investor visa" becasue many E-2s do involve an individual investing and starting up a new business or purchasing an existing business in the U.S.
There is also the "essential employee" option under the E-2 investor option. As previous posts pointed out, this involves a foreign national who holds the same nationality of the company who is filling an "essential" role in the U.S. The essential aspect is similar to the L-1 concept of specialized knowledge. The company must be able to document and prove its investment/financials into the U.S.
For more info on the E-2 feel free to see:

Why does the individual wish to pursue E-2 status? Investing in his own business? Running out of L-1 time?
